Comfort Quilts

As a 501(c)(3) organization we are proud of the quilts we donate to local organizations to provide comfort to others. We make quilts for children, teens, and adults throughout the Delaware County community.

We make quilts for Veterans with no special design, size or fabric designation. All of our fabric is donated. We sort, cut and make kits to be put together. When we have a few tops completed, we cut batting and backs. These are then sandwiched together and either tied or quilted. These quilts have been distributed to men and women in the Veterans’ Hospitals in Philadelphia, Coatesville, Delaware, and also in the Main Line Health Hospice We Honor Veterans program. Some quilts have been distributed through the VFW post in Media.

We also make and donate pillowcases to hospitalized children, supporting Ryan’s Case for Smiles organization. The fun fabric patterns we use for the pillowcases help brighten the rooms and spirits of children battling illnesses in local hospitals.

We welcome quilt donations from members and non-members alike. Quilts can be made as group effort or by individual makers. We provide FREE donation kits with simple instructions that are perfect for sewers of all levels. You are welcome to donate quilts of your own design made with your fabrics if you prefer. Kits for both quilts and pillowcases are available for pick up and finished items can be dropped off at our monthly meetings held on the second Monday of the month at 7 pm at the Brookhaven Municipal Center.

We have a document with frequently asked questions (FAQs). You can also contact us and ask the Community Outreach Chairs any questions or request information, instructions, and patterns. We appreciate any help given to provide quilts and pillowcases to those who need comfort!

Fair Acres Connection

Fair Acres provides long term care, short term rehabilitation, respite care and hospice services. Existing for over 200 years, they are the largest skilled nursing facility in Delaware County. They are owned and operated by the county and are also a geriatric training site for local colleges, universities and nursing schools. Located in Lima, they can accommodate ~775 residents, ranging in age from young adult to senior. Fair Acres employs a large and well-trained team of physicians, nurses and therapists, meeting the individual residents’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

As part of our community outreach, Undercover Quilters regularly contacts Fair Acres, who provides us with a list of needed and welcomed items. At our normal monthly guild meetings, we collect monetary donations as well as toiletries, calendars, used costume jewelry, wheelchair bags, new adult sweatsuits and other various requested items. Some are used as Christmas gifts for residents. The guild also donates items for sale at their annual June Fair and for sale in the Gift Shop. Members of the guild have donated quilts that were raffled by Fair Acres.

Comfort Quilts Service Day

Our first Community Outreach Comfort Quilts Service Day of 2025, on January 23 at the Brookhaven Community Center. It was a lovely day with 23% of our members attending. Quilts were pin basted, bindings were made and backs were pieced. Thanks to all who volunteered to support our charitable outreach endeavors.
